Tesla introduces innovative wall connector with adaptable "Magic Dock" adapter

Tesla has introduced its Universal Wall Connector, a charging device that is compatible with any electric vehicle. The charger comes with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug and an Integrated J1772 adapter, making it convenient for EV owners. One of the standout features of this charger is its ability to show charging history and energy consumption through the Tesla app, a feature that is likely to be appreciated by non-Tesla owners.

The announcement of the Universal Wall Connector was made by Tesla through social media. Videos and the product page on the Tesla Shop showcase the key feature of the charger, which is the integrated J1772 adapter designed specifically for non-Tesla vehicles.

This new charger is similar to the Magic Dock system that Tesla has implemented in its Supercharger stations to charge non-Tesla electric cars. The Tesla Shop page for the Universal Wall Connector reveals several innovative functions of the charger.

In addition to the integrated J1772 adapter and NACS plug, the Universal Wall Connector has the capability to add 44 miles of range per hour at an output of 11.5 kW/48 amps. The charger also includes Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for over-the-air software updates.

Most notably, the Universal Wall Connector provides access to the Tesla App, enabling users to monitor and manage their charging schedule and usage. This is a feature not commonly found in non-Tesla chargers, making it a useful tool for EV owners in their daily routine.

Priced at $595, the Universal Wall Connector is more expensive than Tesla's current Wall Connector, which is priced at $475. However, considering its features and convenience, the product may be worth the investment. Interested buyers can place orders for the Universal Wall Connector, with shipments expected to begin in October.
