Tesla Model S X Price Cuts

Tesla has made a surprising move by discontinuing the new Standard Range (SR) variants for the Model S and Model X, less than a month after their release.

Just a few weeks ago, the electric vehicle manufacturer introduced the SR variants, which were priced $10,000 lower than the Long Range (LR) models. However, these cheaper versions offered reduced range and performance, despite utilizing the same 100 kWh battery packs.

Interestingly, Tesla chose to limit the battery capacity through software rather than installing a physically smaller battery pack. Insider sources suggest that approximately 21% of the usable capacity was intentionally locked.

There had been speculation that Tesla might offer SR owners the opportunity to unlock additional range and performance in the future, for an extra fee. However, with the discontinuation of the SR variants, it remains uncertain if this option will ever become available.
