Fifteen Tesla vehicles were set on fire at a car dealership in Frankfurt, Germany, this week, and a radical group of environmentalists has claimed responsibility for the arson. This act alone likely resulted in more pollutant emissions than the group can counter with their activism.

A few years ago, the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA) moved its car trade show from Frankfurt to Munich due to the impact of environmentalist protests on the event. The show has since transitioned into a "mobility show" featuring many electric vehicles.

While there are still some protests in Munich, they are not as significant as those in Frankfurt. During a recent visit to Munich, only a few cohorts on bikes with signs were observed protesting in the city.

Greenpeace staged a protest at the conference center, although it was missed by the author. However, they suspect that the image associated with the protest may have been heavily edited.

In contrast to the mild protests in Munich, a separate group in Frankfurt engaged in a more criminal act. Fifteen Tesla vehicles were set on fire at a dealership, resulting in significant damage and the involvement of forty firefighters.

The radical group responsible for the arson released a letter on the German version of the Indymedia website, referencing the IAA protest and claiming responsibility for the attack in Frankfurt. In the letter, they expressed their opposition to Tesla, particularly highlighting concerns about the mining of lithium and cobalt and its impact on indigenous communities.

The group also criticized Elon Musk and his efforts to colonize Mars, viewing it as a reflection of "patriarchal fantasies" and a means to create a vacation destination for the wealthy rather than advancing multiplanetary life.

The author of the article acknowledges the importance of ethical mining practices but argues that setting fire to electric vehicles is not an effective way to address the issue. They highlight the environmental benefits of EVs and emphasize the potential for recycling at the end of their lifespan.

The author also questions whether the radical group has concrete evidence of mining projects associated with Tesla that are being contested by indigenous communities. Without such evidence, they view the group's actions as petty criminality rather than heroic activism.
