Toyota bZ4X test

The Toyota bZ4X is a new electric SUV that competes with other models like the Nissan Ariya, Skoda Enyaq iV, and Tesla Model Y. It is offered in both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, with the latter having an additional electric motor for the rear wheels and more power. The bZ4X has a battery with a usable capacity of 64kWh, which is slightly smaller than its competitors. The entry-level FWD model has an official range of 317 miles, while the top-spec AWD Vision model has a range of 259 miles.

Although Toyota is working on developing electric models with longer ranges, the bZ4X is their first battery-powered EV for Europe. As a fortunate individual, I have the opportunity to use the bZ4X as my next company car.

While the bZ4X's range may not be as impressive as some of its similarly priced or cheaper rivals, it is still sufficient for my daily driving needs and occasional long journeys. I primarily charge the vehicle overnight at home, but if I can find a public rapid charger that can deliver energy at the bZ4X's peak rate of 150kW, I can achieve a 10-80% charge in around 30 minutes.

My bZ4X, in the range-topping Vision trim, comes with a generous list of features. These include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, a foot-operated electric tailgate, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic glass roof. It is worth noting that the option to have a panoramic glass roof can be declined, resulting in a cost saving of £540. The seats are upholstered in light grey synthetic leather, although it seems that black is now the only available option as the light grey is no longer offered.
