Former Ford fleet director passes away

Mike Wear, a former Ford fleet director and respected figure in the fleet industry, has sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Wear began his career at Ford as a graduate trainee in 1969 and went on to hold various roles within the company. He was appointed director of Ford of Britain fleet operations in November 1994, marking a significant milestone in his 33-year career.

Throughout his career, Wear held positions such as demonstration vehicle co-ordinator, fleet and leasing sales representative, car sales representative, and car marketing plans co-ordinator. He also served as supervisor of car marketing merchandising programs and area truck sales manager.

In addition to his managerial roles, Wear made notable contributions to the company. He was instrumental in setting up Ford Direct, which became one of his earliest successes. His dedication and achievements were recognized when he retired as Ford's fleet director in 2003.

On his last day at Ford, Wear emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with customers and staff. He believed that quality time spent with them could make a significant difference in business success.

After leaving Ford, Wear joined Motability Operations as the manufacturer and dealer relations director. In 2006, he was honored with an OBE for his public service as chair of the Vehicle Crime Reduction Action Team (VCRAT).

Mike Wear passed away on November 16 at Pembury Hospital. A private service will be held at Sevenoaks Crematorium for family only, followed by a memorial service at St Mary's Church in Ide Hill, Kent, on December 8.
