UK apprehends five individuals in alleged Russian espionage operation.
【Summary】Five people have been arrested in the UK for allegedly being part of a spy ring linked to Russia. They were charged with possessing fake European identity documents and posing as journalists from American television companies. Surveillance operations were carried out in London, Germany, and Montenegro. Two of the suspects have been released on police bail.
Five Bulgarian nationals have been arrested in London on charges of possessing fake European identity documents. The suspects, who allegedly knew the documents were fake, were found in possession of 19 passports, driving licenses, identity cards, and residence permits for various European countries.
In addition to the identity document charges, the suspects are also accused of impersonating journalists from American television companies. Scotland Yard detectives discovered forged press cards and clothing for the Discovery and National Geographic channels among their belongings. These items were allegedly used for surveillance operations in London, Germany, and Montenegro.
Of the five individuals arrested, three have been remanded in custody. The remaining two, a 31-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, have been released on police bail and are scheduled to return in September.
One of the arrested individuals, Roussev, had studied in Australia and arrived in the UK in 2009. He describes himself as the co-founder of a Bulgarian streaming platform called MyTotal.tv and also claims to be involved in a business related to signals intelligence, which involves the interception, collection, and analysis of electronic signals and communications.
The other two individuals, Dzhambazov and Ivanova, have lived in the UK for several years. Dzhambazov is described as a hospital driver, while Ivanova works as an assistant at a medical laboratory offering pathology services.
