1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Scaglietti Auction
【Summary】Keith Richards' 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Scaglietti, previously owned by the Rolling Stones guitarist, is being auctioned. The car, with over 25,000 miles and period-correct modifications, was sold to a private collection in Japan in 1986 but returned to Europe in 2014. It underwent a meticulous restoration in 2015 under the care of Liam Howlett, co-founder of The Prodigy.
The story behind this automotive gem is as fascinating as the car itself. Keith Richards acquired the Ferrari in California back in 1972, and it soon became his trusted companion during the Rolling Stones' European tours. With his rock 'n' roll lifestyle, Richards managed to accumulate over 25,000 miles.
The car boasts an Argento Metallizzato exterior and Nero Connolly leather interior, giving it a sleek and sophisticated look. Its classic charm is further enhanced by the Veglia Borletti instrumentation in miles, adding a touch of nostalgia. Additionally, the car features several period-correct modifications, such as a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and a Blaupunkt radio.
After years of being in Richards' possession, the beloved Ferrari was sold to a private collection in Japan in 1986. However, in 2014, the car made a triumphant return to Europe and found a new home with Liam Howlett, the co-founder of the EDM band The Prodigy. Howlett, recognizing the car's historical significance, decided to undertake a meticulous restoration in 2015.
Specialist Joe Macari Performance Cars of London was entrusted with the task of rebuilding the V6 engine and refreshing the car's exterior. Every detail was carefully attended to, ensuring that the car regained its former glory. The restoration process was a labor of love, with no expense spared to bring the car back to its original condition.
