2023 Lexus RZ Falls Just Shy of a Home Run

Lexus appears to be less enthusiastic about the transition to battery-powered electric vehicles compared to other brands, and this sentiment is reflected in their latest offering. The Lexus RZ, the luxury brand's inaugural electric vehicle, utilizes the same e-TNGA platform as the battery-electric Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. While the RZ shares design elements with the Lexus RX, it is smaller in size and classified as a compact vehicle.

With an impressive 308 horsepower, the RZ certainly doesn't lack in power. However, its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery only provides a driving range of at least 196 miles, with a maximum range of 220 miles. In the context of 2023, this range may seem relatively limited. Nevertheless, it's important to consider that many electric vehicle drivers often carry around more battery weight than necessary.

Despite its shortcomings, there are several positive aspects to the Lexus RZ that should be acknowledged. Both trim levels offer a delightful ride quality, ensuring a comfortable driving experience. Additionally, the interior of the RZ is excellent, boasting high-quality materials and a luxurious feel.

While there are some reservations that may give potential buyers pause, it's worth noting that the Lexus RZ could still be the right electric vehicle for certain individuals. It ultimately depends on personal preferences and priorities.
