2023 Mercedes-AMG E 53: latest spy shots reveal hot sedan and wagon
【Summary】Mercedes is preparing to release the new 2023 Mercedes-AMG E 53, as spy shots of the hot saloon and estate versions have been captured. The design will be similar to the standard E-Class, with some distinctive features like a bespoke grille, larger wheels, and quad-tip exhaust. The E 53 is expected to have a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine with around 503bhp and 750Nm of torque. Competition will come from Audi's updated S6 and the latest BMW 5 Series.
Mercedes recently introduced the sixth-generation E-Class, and it seems that the AMG E 53 derivatives are on their way. Previous spy pictures of the E 53 testing in saloon and estate form gave us a glimpse, but the latest spy images show less camouflage, providing a better look at these hot executive cars. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 is expected to be fully revealed later this year, preceding the release of the more powerful E 63.
The overall design of the E 53 will be similar to the standard E-Class, but with a few noticeable tweaks that will set it apart from the less sporty variants. These test cars feature a bespoke grille, a larger lower air intake in the front bumper, larger alloy wheels with a beefier braking system, and AMG's signature quad-tip exhaust layout next to a rear diffuser.
One of the major changes in the new E-Class is the inclusion of a new 'Superscreen' infotainment system, which is a smaller version of the Hyperscreen setup. Mercedes typically adds extra data and menus to its AMG cars, so we can expect some new performance-focused features on the E 53.
Under the hood, the E 53 is rumored to have the same turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine as the S580e, combined with a battery, producing around 503 horsepower and 750 Newton-meters of torque. This is a significant increase compared to the outgoing E 53's 429 horsepower and 520 Newton-meters of torque. The new E 53 will face competition from Audi's updated S6 and the latest BMW 5 Series.
In the UK, Mercedes is only offering the new E-Class in sporty AMG Line trim due to market demand. Therefore, it is likely that the high-performance E 53 will make up a significant portion of the sales. However, some buyers may choose to wait for the incoming E 63 model instead.
