2024 Alfa Romeo small SUV leaks in 'Brennero' images

Pictures of Alfa Romeo's upcoming small all-electric SUV have recently surfaced online, giving us a glimpse of what to expect when it hits the market in 2024. The compact electric vehicle, rumored to be named Brennero, will serve as the entry-level car for the Italian automaker. Although the name has not been officially confirmed, it is anticipated to be positioned below the Tonale SUV and priced around £35,000. Built on the e-CMP platform shared with Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger Stellantis models, the new EV will be the smallest offering in Alfa Romeo's lineup.

Upon closer examination of the leaked images, it is evident that the new Alfa Romeo SUV carries the brand's distinctive styling cues, including the iconic scudetto grille and phone-dial wheels. Furthermore, there are shared exterior components with its Fiat and Jeep counterparts, such as the mirror caps, windshield, and door handles. The front of the vehicle features split LED headlights beneath a sculpted bonnet, while the rear showcases a strong shoulder line and short overhangs, giving the small electric SUV a bold and confident presence.

Inside, the leaked interior images reveal a digital driver's screen similar to the technology found in other Alfa Romeo models. This central display provides useful information to the driver. According to Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, the upcoming car in 2024 will be a downsized sibling of the Tonale, aimed at establishing the brand's presence in Europe's thriving small SUV segment.

In an interview with Auto Express, Imparato expressed confidence in the adaptability of the CMP architecture, which underpins various vehicles, including the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback. He assured that the new Alfa Romeo SUV will embody the brand's spirit and deliver the spirited driving dynamics expected by Alfa customers. Imparato emphasized that the tuning done on the Tonale will influence the driveability and performance of the smaller SUV, ensuring an authentic Alfa Romeo experience.

The compact crossover EV will be equipped with a 54kWh battery and a single electric motor, similar to the Avenger, producing 154bhp and 260Nm of torque. This powertrain setup is expected to provide a range of 248 miles, on par with the Jeep Avenger. Additionally, Alfa Romeo is likely to offer mild-hybrid petrol engines, although it remains uncertain if they will be available in the UK market. However, it has been confirmed that Alfa Romeo plans to phase out internal combustion engines by 2027, making the "Brennero" SUV exclusively electric.

Looking ahead, Alfa Romeo is set to lead the way within the Stellantis group by utilizing the bespoke all-electric STLA platform technology. The brand will introduce a standalone electric model in 2025, followed by another electric vehicle in 2026. This commitment to electric mobility demonstrates Alfa Romeo's dedication to the future of sustainable transportation.
