2024 Alfa Romeo 'Brennero' small SUV leaks in new images

Pictures of Alfa Romeo's upcoming small all-electric SUV have been leaked online ahead of its anticipated release in early 2024. The compact electric vehicle, rumored to be named Brennero, will serve as the entry-level car for the Italian automaker. However, the official name has not been confirmed yet. Built on the e-CMP platform shared with Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger Stellantis models, this new EV will be the smallest offering in Alfa Romeo's lineup. It is expected to be priced around £35,000, positioning it below the Tonale SUV.

Upon closer examination of the leaked images, it is evident that the new Alfa Romeo SUV carries the brand's distinctive styling cues, such as the iconic scudetto grille and phone-dial wheels. Additionally, there are shared exterior components with the Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger, including mirror caps, windshield, and door handles. The front of the vehicle features split LED headlights beneath a sculpted bonnet, while the rear showcases a strong shoulder line and short overhangs, giving the small electric model a bold presence.

Interior images reveal a digital driver's screen similar to the technology found in other Alfa Romeo models, displaying useful information on a central readout. Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed in an interview with Auto Express that the car scheduled for 2024 is a downsized sibling of the Tonale, designed to establish Alfa Romeo's presence in Europe's flourishing small SUV segment.

Imparato expressed confidence in the adaptability of the CMP architecture, which is also used in vehicles like the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback, to deliver the spirited driving dynamics expected by Alfa Romeo customers. He assured that the new small SUV will embody the essence of an Alfa Romeo, with its performance and driveability influenced by the tuning of the Tonale.

The upcoming small crossover EV will feature a 54kWh battery and a single electric motor, similar to the Avenger, providing 154bhp and 260Nm of torque. This powertrain configuration should enable the SUV to achieve a range of 248 miles, matching the capabilities of the Jeep Avenger. Mild-hybrid petrol engines are also expected to be available, although it is uncertain if they will be offered in the UK market. Alfa Romeo plans to phase out internal combustion engine powertrains by 2027, making the 'Brennero' model exclusively electric.

In addition to the Brennero, Alfa Romeo has plans to introduce more electric models. Imparato confirmed that Alfa Romeo will be the first brand under the Stellantis group to utilize the bespoke all-electric STLA platform technology. A standalone electric model is slated for release in 2025, followed by another electric vehicle in 2026.
