2024 Ford Puma EV: Impressive Range and Affordable Pricing

Ford of Europe is facing challenges in market share and profitability, but the company has plans to phase out all combustion-engined vehicles in the region by the end of the decade. The Puma subcompact crossover, manufactured in Romania, is a crucial part of Ford's transition to an EV-only lineup in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The Puma, named after a previous coupe model, was introduced in 2019 with styling led by Thomas Morel. It replaces the Fiesta in Ford's European lineup and offers a range of 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines. The Puma is exclusively front-wheel drive and will be joined by an electric version in 2024.

Auto Bild, a German motoring publication, predicts that the Puma EV will have a starting price of 36,000 euros (approximately $39,300). While this may seem expensive, it is comparable to other B-segment crossovers like Peugeot's e-2008 and significantly cheaper than the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense.

The Puma EV is expected to have a driving range of approximately 400 kilometers (WLTP combined estimate), making it an attractive option in the competitive EV segment. Production of the Puma EV will take place alongside the combustion-engined versions of the vehicle.

Ford has adapted the Global B-car vehicle architecture for the Puma EV, which is also used in the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier vans. The E-Tourneo Courier, released in May 2023, offers a range of 87 kilometers in just 10 minutes of DC fast charging.

The press release for the E-Tourneo Courier confirms that the Puma EV will be available by 2024, indicating that its debut is just months away. Like other Ford EV models, the Puma EV is expected to feature a one-pedal driving mode. However, Ford has not yet disclosed the battery capacity or WLTP combined range for either van.
