Nikola recalls delivered trucks for fire risk
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks it has delivered due to a coolant leak causing fires. Sales are suspended and the company is contacting all affected parties. The investigation found a "minor thermal incident" on one truck, with no injuries. Foul play is unlikely, and efforts are underway to provide a remedy.
Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales after a recent investigation revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause of several fires. The company is taking this action in response to the findings of a third-party investigator, which were further supported by a minor thermal incident on one of the trucks. Fortunately, no one was injured in these incidents.
The recall affects a total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks that are currently in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. Nikola is in the process of contacting all parties involved to ensure the necessary actions are taken. The company is committed to resolving the issue and providing a remedy for affected vehicles.
Initially, Nikola suspected foul play when the fires occurred at its headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. This prompted an investigation in June, and one of the damaged trucks re-ignited last month while being monitored on-site. However, the company now believes that foul play or external factors are unlikely to have caused the incidents.
