2024 Ford Puma EV: Longer Range, Competitive Price
【Summary】Ford plans to phase out combustion-engined vehicles in Europe by 2030 and the Puma subcompact crossover is vital to this transition. The Puma EV is expected to launch in 2024 with a starting price of €36,000 and a driving range of around 400 kilometers. It will be produced alongside the combustion-engined versions of the Puma. The EV will be based on the Global B-car platform and is expected to have one-pedal driving mode. Battery capacity and range are yet to be confirmed by Ford.
Ford of Europe is facing challenges in market share and profitability, but the company is determined to transition to an all-electric lineup in the region by the end of the decade. The Puma subcompact crossover, manufactured in Romania, plays a crucial role in this transition.
The Puma, introduced in 2019, is a B-segment crossover that replaces the Fiesta in Ford's European lineup. It features stylish design by a team led by Thomas Morel and is available with 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines. The Puma is exclusively front-wheel drive and will be joined by an electric version in 2024.
Auto Bild, a prominent German motoring publication, predicts that the Puma EV will have a starting price of 36,000 euros, which is approximately $39,300 dollars. While this may seem expensive, it is comparable to other electric B-segment crossovers like Peugeot's e-2008 and significantly cheaper than the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense.
The Puma EV is expected to have a driving range of around 400 kilometers according to the WLTP combined estimate. This, along with its competitive pricing, makes it an attractive option in the growing electric vehicle market.
The Puma EV will be produced alongside the combustion-engined versions and will share the Global B-car vehicle architecture with other Ford models like the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier. The E-Tourneo Courier, a five-seater electric van, was launched in May 2023 and is capable of fast charging, adding 87 kilometers of range in 10 minutes.
Ford has confirmed that the Puma EV will be available by 2024, and it is expected to feature one-pedal driving mode, similar to other electric Ford models. However, details regarding battery capacity and range have not been officially announced by the company.
