2024 Honda Prologue Unveils 300-Mile Range, Upper-$40k Cost

Honda, a company known for its hybrid cars, is finally making its first serious foray into the world of electric vehicles (EVs) with the upcoming 2024 Honda Prologue. This crossover, similar in size to the Passport, is expected to have a range of 300 miles and will share a platform and battery with electric GM vehicles. However, Honda is confident that its unique suspension tuning, styling, and cabin will set it apart from the competition. The Prologue will be available in single- and dual-motor variants, with the all-wheel-drive version boasting 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque.

The 2024 Honda Prologue has a sleek and polished exterior, with narrow headlights, a gloss black grille panel, and modern air curtains on the bumper corners. It features an expansive wheelbase that gives it a planted stance and a trim rear end. The interior of the Prologue will be familiar to Accord Hybrid owners, with standard Google Built-In, a digital gauge cluster, and an infotainment display. The cabin also offers excellent storage options, including open storage beneath the center console, large cupholders, and a sizable cubby between the front passengers. However, taller passengers may find the backseat lacking in headroom and thigh support. The Prologue offers 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and 57.7 cubic feet with the seatbacks folded flat.

Powering the Prologue is an 85.0-kilowatt-hour battery, which is expected to provide a range of 300 miles in the most efficient configurations. The single-motor Prologue will be front-wheel drive, while the all-wheel-drive version will have 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. The Prologue can be recharged using an at-home station that provides 11.5 kilowatts, with a potential full charge time of less than eight hours. A portable charging kit is also available. The Prologue has a DC charge rate of 155 kilowatts and can add 65 miles of range in 10 minutes. Honda will provide different charging solutions to Prologue buyers, including at-home chargers and charging credits.

Honda has ambitious goals for zero-emissions vehicle sales, aiming for 100 percent by 2040. The Prologue is just the beginning, with another EV planned for 2025 based on Honda's brand-specific "e: Architecture" platform. The Prologue is expected to have a starting price in the high-$40,000 range and will come with standard Honda Sensing safety features, the Google Built-In suite, heated front seats, and wireless device charging. While the Prologue may face competition in terms of interior space and charging rate, Honda's reputation for engineering and packaging gives its future EVs great potential. Until then, the Prologue will serve as Honda's solid crossover offering with zero emissions.
