2024 Skoda Kodiaq: a closer look at the all-new flagship SUV

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV is set to be revealed in early October, and the Czech brand has already given us a glimpse of its all-new interior. The upcoming model will feature physical climate control dials, sustainable materials, and the brand's signature 'Simply Clever' touches. Skoda has combined the simplicity and functionality of the current Kodiaq's interior with the more modern, tech-centric design of the all-electric Enyaq iV's cabin.

The centerpiece of the new Kodiaq interior is a 13-inch free-standing touchscreen, accompanied by Skoda's new 'Smart Dials' that will also be featured in the latest Skoda Superb. Each dial houses a 32 millimeter display, with the outer two dedicated to cabin temperature control, and the central dial can be used for adjusting volume, fan speed, and drive mode. Other additions to the forthcoming Kodiaq include a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit driver's display and a head-up display. The gear selector has been moved from the center console to the steering column, making room for a wireless charging pad for two smartphones.

The next Kodiaq will offer various interior design schemes, including Loft, Lounge, or ecoSuite in Black or Cognac. The textile materials used in select models will be made from 100% recycled polyester, while the leather in other models will be produced using an eco-friendly tanning process. The outgoing Kodiaq, launched in 2016, has gained popularity for its practicality and range of powertrains. The new Kodiaq will expand on this range with plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid power options.

In terms of practicality, the new Kodiaq will be slightly longer than its predecessor and will have a larger boot, offering 910 liters of space compared to the current model's 835 liters. The option for seven seats will be available, although this will reduce the boot space to 845 liters. With these upgrades, along with new technology and fresh styling, the Kodiaq will continue to compete with rivals in the large SUV class, such as the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, VW Tiguan Allspace, and SEAT Taracco.

The next-generation Kodiaq has also been spotted testing, revealing an evolutionary style with familiar elements brought up to date. Skoda's latest design language, seen in their new electric vehicles like the Enyaq and upcoming Elroq, will be featured in the new Kodiaq. The body retains the previous model's silhouette, with a more assertive grille and slimmer rear lights mounted higher up. The major changes for the Kodiaq will be focused on its underpinnings, moving from the MQB A2 platform to the more recent MQB Evo platform.

The new Kodiaq will be available with mild-hybrid assistance from launch, with a plug-in hybrid version expected to join the range in Spring 2024. The plug-in hybrid models will have a pure-electric driving range of over 62 miles. Alongside these electrified versions, the Kodiaq will also offer conventional diesel and petrol engines. However, a full-electric variant will not be available due to platform limitations. Skoda is working on an all-electric seven-seat SUV that is scheduled for release in 2026.

Skoda plans to fully reveal the new Kodiaq in early October 2023, with the fourth-generation Superb making its world debut in November. Both models will be produced on the same production line in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. Pricing for the second-generation Kodiaq is expected to see a slight increase compared to the current model.
