2024 Skoda Kodiaq: a sneak peek into the next-gen flagship SUV

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV is set to be unveiled in early October, and Skoda has given us a sneak peek at the all-new interior. The upcoming model will feature physical climate control dials, sustainable materials, and the brand's signature 'Simply Clever' touches. The interior design seems to combine the simplicity and functionality of the current Kodiaq with the modern, tech-centric design of the all-electric Enyaq iV's cabin.

The centerpiece of the new Kodiaq interior is a 13-inch free-standing touchscreen, accompanied by Skoda's new 'Smart Dials' that will also be featured in the latest Skoda Superb. Each dial includes a 32-millimeter display, with the outer two dedicated to cabin temperature and heating and cooling for the driver and front passenger seat. The central dial can be used to adjust the volume, fan speed, or drive mode.

Other new additions to the forthcoming Kodiaq include a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit driver's display and a head-up display. The gear selector has been moved from the center console to the steering column, making space for a wireless charging pad that can accommodate two smartphones.

The next Kodiaq will also offer an umbrella and handy ice scraper in the driver's door, along with a choice of interior design schemes: Loft, Lounge, or ecoSuite in Black or Cognac. The textiles used in select models will be made from 100% recycled polyester, while the leather in others will be produced using an eco-friendly tanning process.

Despite being launched in 2016, the outgoing Kodiaq remains a favorite family car due to its practicality and range of powertrains. The new Kodiaq will expand on this range with the addition of plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid power options. With these updates, along with new technology and fresh styling, the Kodiaq will continue to rival competitors in the large SUV class.

The next-generation Kodiaq has also been spotted testing. Spy images suggest that it will have an evolutionary style, incorporating familiar elements with Skoda's latest design language seen in their new range of electric vehicles.

The exterior design of the new Kodiaq retains classic Skoda SUV details, such as the two-piece headlights, but with a more assertive and less sleek appearance. The body maintains the previous model's silhouette, ensuring sufficient headroom for passengers in the third row. The rear lights are slimmer and mounted higher up.

The major changes for the new Kodiaq will be focused on its underpinnings. It is expected to move onto the more recent MQB Evo platform, which is used by other Volkswagen Group models. Skoda has confirmed that the new Kodiaq will offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain, along with mild-hybrid, diesel, and petrol variants. However, a full-electric variant will not be available due to platform limitations.

The new Kodiaq is scheduled for a full reveal in early October 2023, and production will take place alongside the upcoming fourth-generation Superb in the Czech Republic. Pricing for the second-generation model is expected to see a slight increase compared to the current Kodiaq.
