Ford F-150 Lobo: Street Performance Upgrade

High-performance pickups designed for the road rather than the trail have been missing from the market, but Ford may be looking to change that. According to a new report, the company is working on a new variant of the F-150 called Lobo, which is said to be a powerful truck with a cargo box.

This isn't the first time Ford has used the Lobo name. In the past, it was used for the F-150 sold in the Mexican market. Now, it seems that Ford will be bringing back the name for the electric variant of the F-150.

According to anonymous sources, the Lobo will be offered as a standalone trim level, similar to the Raptor, rather than just an appearance package. It will have a lowered suspension system and a design that is described as "sinister and aggressive." However, details about the available cab configurations are still unknown.

While it's too early to know for sure, it is expected that the F-150 Lobo will come with a powerful engine to match its muscular appearance. One possibility is the 5.0-liter V8, which produces 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Another option could be the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 from the entry-level F-150 Raptor, which offers 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.

It remains to be seen whether the Lobo will be rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. In the past, the F-150 Lightning models were rear-wheel-drive, as were many hot-rodded pickups from the 1990s.

Ford has confirmed that the updated 2024 F-150 will be unveiled at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show. However, the company has not commented on the Lobo report or publicly announced plans for a Lobo model. If the rumor is true, more information about the 2024 F-150 Lobo will likely be revealed at the auto show next month, and sales are expected to begin soon after.
