2024 Toyota Hilux Pickup Unveiled in Thailand at an Affordable Price

The highly anticipated Toyota IMV 0 concept has finally been unveiled in Thailand, now known as the Hilux Champ. This entry-level pickup truck retains the concept's unique styling and offers a low entry price, three powertrain options, and endless possibilities for aftermarket customization.

From the outside, the Hilux Champ closely resembles the IMV 0 concept. Its budget-focused orientation is evident in the heavy plastic cladding on the Land Cruiser-inspired face, the flat windshield, the black steel wheels, and the halogen headlights (LEDs are optional).

The Thai-spec Hilux Champ is available in both short and long-wheelbase versions, with the option of a drop-side bed or a flat deck. The shortest model measures 4,970 mm (195.7 inches) in length, while the longer version stretches to 5,300 mm (208.7 inches).

Toyota engineers have added bolt holes to the deck, allowing owners to easily attach various aftermarket accessories to customize their vehicles. Toyota Motor Thailand has partnered with over 100 accessory manufacturers to provide an extensive range of customization options for the Hilux Champ.

All versions of the Hilux Champ in Thailand feature a single-cab design, two doors, and a two-seater cabin. The interior is as basic as the exterior, with orange accents adding some visual appeal to the black plastic. However, there is no infotainment display or multimedia system, with the instrument cluster being the sole source of information for the driver.

The Hilux Champ offers three powertrain options: a 2.0-liter petrol engine, a 2.7-liter petrol engine, and a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. The 2.0-liter petrol engine produces 137 hp and 183 Nm of torque, while the 2.7-liter petrol engine generates 164 hp and 245 Nm of torque. The 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine delivers 148 hp and 343 Nm of torque, with a payload capacity of 1 tonne.

All engine options are paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, the Hilux Champ is only available with rear-wheel drive, as there is no 4WD option for Thai buyers.

In Thailand, the Toyota Hilux Champ is priced between ฿459,000-577,000 ($13,065-16,425), making it more affordable than the regular Hilux. Toyota Motor Thailand is currently accepting orders for the Hilux Champ, with manufacturing taking place at the Samrong Plant in Thailand.
