2025 Mini Countryman: 3 Important Updates

The third-generation Mini Countryman has undergone significant changes, including the addition of two fully electric variants, the Countryman E and Countryman SE. These electric models offer different power and torque specifications.

The new Countryman has a larger body, resulting in a more spacious interior with increased shoulder room and a slightly bigger trunk. The interior design has also been upgraded to a more upmarket and minimalistic style.

In terms of technology, the Countryman now offers advanced Level 2 driver assistance systems and improved automatic parking. It also features enhanced mood lighting and the option for adaptive dampers, providing a more controlled ride.

The exterior of the Countryman has received a radical makeover, making it visually distinct from its predecessors. This generation also marks the introduction of fully electric powertrain options for the first time.

Set to enter production in November 2023 and go on sale in 2024, the all-new Mini Countryman shares its mechanics with the BMW X1. While they share motors and batteries, the Countryman is targeted towards buyers with different aesthetic preferences.

Let's take a closer look at the changes in this third-generation Mini Countryman and how these improvements enhance the vehicle.

1. Two Fully Electric Variants

The all-new Countryman will be offered with internal combustion engines, but Mini has chosen to focus on announcing the two electric powertrain options. The Countryman E represents the base single-motor version, while the Countryman SE is the more expensive dual-motor drive variant.

The single-motor version generates 201 horsepower and 184.4 pound-feet of torque, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 106 mph.

The dual-motor SE model, on the other hand, produces 308 horsepower and 364.4 pound-feet of torque, resulting in quicker acceleration. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 112 mph.

Both models are equipped with a 64.7 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 287 miles for the front-wheel drive model and 269 miles for the all-wheel drive model. However, their DC fast-charging capabilities are limited to 130 kW.

2. Bigger Body, Roomier Interior

Compared to the previous model, the Countryman has grown in size. It is 5 inches longer, 2.4 inches taller, and slightly wider. This growth is reflected in its choice of wheels, which now go up to 20 inches.

The larger body allows for a more spacious interior, with an additional 1.2 inches of shoulder room in the front and 1 inch in the rear. The trunk has also been slightly increased in size. Additionally, the interior design has been upgraded to a more upmarket and minimalist style, featuring a single 9.4-inch circular screen in the center of the dashboard.

3. More Technology

The Countryman now offers advanced Level 2 driver assistance systems, including the ability to make autonomous lane changes and provide hands-free driving on certain roads at speeds up to 37 mph. The automatic parking system has also been improved.

Mood lighting is a highlight of Mini interiors, and the Countryman takes it to new heights with LED-backlit panels and a wide range of colors. The car can also be equipped with frequency-selective adaptive dampers for a more controlled ride.

With its significant changes, the Mini Countryman faces tough competition in the fully electric segment. Its growth in size and repositioning as a model one size class above the older version will likely result in a higher price point. Additionally, it will compete with formidable rivals like the Tesla Model Y.
