65mph Maeving RM1S development

If you were hesitant about the Maeving RM1 because of its 45mph top speed, then the new RM1S version might catch your interest. The RM1S features a new hub motor that produces 14.1bhp, a significant increase compared to the standard Maeving RM1's 5.9bhp. As a result, riders now need to be 17 years old instead of 16 to ride it, but it still falls within the limit for those riding with L-plates after completing a CBT.

The additional power has a noticeable impact on performance. The RM1S can reach a top speed of 65mph, making it a more versatile machine than before. However, the range remains the same at 80 miles. To achieve this, Maeving has equipped the bike with battery packs that are 30% larger.

It's worth noting that the bike can still be operated with just one of the two battery packs, which reduces the range to 40 miles. The batteries can be charged in place or removed from the bike and charged elsewhere using the optional battery dock. Charging both packs from empty to 80% takes approximately 3.5 hours, while reaching 100% takes around 4.5 hours.

Maeving states that the RM1S was developed in response to customer feedback requesting more power and speed. The design of the bike has remained largely unchanged, featuring a long wheelbase, wire wheels, and a large bobber-style seat. However, if you look closely, you'll notice that the central housings for the batteries are slightly larger, and there's also an upgraded front brake with a 300mm disc and a three-piston caliper. Additionally, Maeving has introduced four new special edition liveries for the bike.

Co-founder Will Stirrup expressed his thoughts on the new bike, stating, "The RM1S is the bike we have been asked over and over to build by those riders who want a zero-emissions motorcycle that looks like an RM1 but is capable of highway speeds. We've worked extremely hard to ensure that everything that has made the RM1 so popular with our customers is carried over to the new RM1S, while delivering the greater performance that will allow it to be used in a wider variety of situations. The original Maeving RM1 has been a huge success for us, and for many riders who stay within inner city limits, it will remain the perfect motorcycle. Adding the RM1S to the collection provides an electric motorcycle for those who need to cover wider geographies at higher speeds."

The RM1S is priced at £7,495, compared to £5,999 for the RM1. Deliveries are set to begin in March 2024.
