Baojun Cloud EV price starts under $14K

GM's joint venture, SGMW, has launched the Baojun Cloud electric hatchback in China. The starting price for the vehicle is 95,800 yuan ($13.2K). SGMW is a joint venture between General Motors, SAIC, and Wuling Motors in China, and it sells vehicles under the Wuling and Baojun brand names.

In 2020, SGMW introduced the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, a microcar with a starting price of around $10,000. Surprisingly, within just one year, the Mini EV surpassed Tesla's Model 3 sales in the region. Since then, the electric microcar has seen various versions, including a Mini EV convertible and the Wuling Air EV, which is also known as the MG Comet in India. This marked the automaker's first international EV.

Building on the success of the Mini EV, SGMW has released several new all-electric vehicles, including the Baojun Yep, which resembles a mini Ford Bronco. The Baojun Yep has been one of the most exciting cars to enter China's market. Additionally, SGMW launched the Wuling Bingo, priced below $10,000, at the end of March. In its first month, the Wuling Bingo achieved an impressive 16,383 deliveries. This year, the joint venture introduced its second EV under the brand, the Baojun Yunduo (Cloud) EV.

The Baojun Yunduo, also known as the Cloud in English, has been officially listed on the Chinese market. The electric hatchback is available in four versions (360 Plus, 360 Pro, 460 Pro, and 460 Max) with prices ranging from 95,800 yuan to 123,800 yuan ($17.1K). With dimensions of 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,652 mm in height, the Baojun Cloud EV is expected to compete against the BYD Dolphin and Volkswagen ID.3. The BYD Dolphin is slightly smaller than the Baojun Cloud EV, measuring 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height.

The Baojun Cloud EV offers two battery options: 37.9 kWh and 50.6 kWh, providing cruising ranges of 360 km (223 mi) and 460 km (285 mi) respectively. Inside the vehicle, there is an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument screen and either a 10.1-inch or 15.6-inch central control screen. The Baojun Cloud EV is also the first to feature LingOS 2.0 ecological cockpit.

In an effort to stay competitive in China's EV market, Volkswagen recently reduced prices for its ID.3 electric car. This move has proven successful, with SAIC-VW reporting a sales increase of over 300% last month, selling 7,378 units of the ID.3.
