BMW has unveiled its latest design concept, which showcases a platform that will be used for the brand's next generation of electric vehicles. The first electric vehicles based on this new architecture, known as the Neue Klasse, are expected to go into production in 2025.

The so-called "Vision Neue Klasse" represents a new era for BMW, according to the German automaker. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse expressed his excitement about the car, stating, "With the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, we put every innovative force that BMW has on the electric side, on the digital side and, of course, that car will also be prepared for the industry of circularity."

The new line-up of electric vehicles will feature BMW's sixth generation of battery cells, which promise to improve charging speed and range by up to 30%. BMW also expects the overall vehicle efficiency to increase by up to 25% as a result of these advancements.

Zipse further emphasized the company's commitment to electromobility, stating, "We believe that electromobility will be the largest growth segment in the world for the automotive industry and we want to be a leading force here."

The Vision Neue Klasse will make its public debut at the IAA motor show in Munich, which is one of the world's largest mobility trade fairs. Zipse expressed his enthusiasm for the show, saying, "In only two years' time, these cars will hit the road, and with that, overall, we lead BMW to a new era of innovation and sustainability."

When asked about the presence of Chinese electric vehicle giants at the Munich motor show and whether he was concerned about Chinese exports impacting BMW's business, Zipse confidently replied, "No, we are not afraid at all." He viewed their participation as a sign of attractiveness and welcomed the competition.

BMW's stock has seen a 13% increase year-to-date. Despite ongoing challenges from supply chain issues and high inflation, the company has raised its annual outlook for its margin on earnings before interest and taxes in the automotive segment.

The BMW CEO projected that battery electric vehicles will account for 15% of the company's worldwide sales by the end of 2023, with plans to further increase this figure in the following years. Frank Weber, a member of BMW's Board of Management, described the Neue Klasse range as a "major technological leap" for the automaker.
