BYD is set to release two additional electric vehicle (EV) models in Japan, namely the Dolphine hatchback and Seal sedan, by the end of 2023. It remains uncertain whether all three EV models will be showcased at the upcoming show scheduled for late October. Despite a decline in the number of international car brands participating in the Tokyo Motor Show, with Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Renault, and Alpine no longer exhibiting, the organizers aim to transform the event into a global platform.

The head of the show's organizing committee, Jun Nagata, stated in May that motor shows worldwide are losing popularity and presence, with only national carmakers participating in their respective country's shows. However, the goal is to make the Japan Mobility Show a global event rather than just a domestic one, according to Masami Tanaka, an association official responsible for next-generation mobility. Currently, nearly 20 foreign companies, including parts makers like Valeo, Bosch, and Hyundai Mobis, are participating.

Chinese companies are also increasing their presence among participating suppliers, with four parts makers, including Zhejiang Sanhua Automotive Components Co., joining the list. This is a result of the association's efforts to engage with foreign companies and enhance the global profile of the Japan Mobility Show. Additionally, over 400 companies, including startups, will be participating in the event, a significant increase from the 192 in the 2019 show. Approximately 160 companies will have booths at the Tokyo waterfront venue. Of the participating companies, 30 to 40 percent are from the automotive sector, while the remaining 60 percent represent industries such as IT, finance, energy, tourism, and education.

In addition to the exhibition, the Japan Mobility Show will feature 30 live music and standup comedy performances at the H2 Energy Festival. This indoor entertainment stage will be powered entirely by hydrogen, similar to features seen at the CES and South by Southwest music and arts festivals. More details about the event will be revealed in September, and official tickets are already available for purchase. Organizers, including Nagata and association Chairman Akio Toyoda, are committed to leveraging automobile and mobility technologies to shape Japan's future.
