BYD Seal sedan assessment

The BYD Seal is a sleek and stylish car that offers impressive performance and range. It competes with models like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. The Seal has a smart interior and exterior design, drives well, and the dual-motor version offers rapid performance. It is considered BYD's best car yet.

BYD's Seal is a conventional car that stands out in a market dominated by SUVs. It is a sleek and stylish saloon that prioritizes range, performance, and style. It is comparable to cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3.

The Seal's 83kWh battery pack allows for a range of 354 miles in the Design model and 323 miles in the Excellence-AWD model. The Design model has a 308bhp electric motor and can accelerate from 0-62mph in under six seconds. Charging is fast with 150kW capabilities, allowing for a 30-80% charge in 26 minutes.

The Seal Design model comes with a range of equipment, including a rotating infotainment screen, driver display, audio system, heated and cooled front seats, and "vehicle to load" capability. The expected price for the Seal Design is £44,000, making it a competitive option compared to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

The BYD Seal offers a range of 354 miles, which is more than its competitors at a similar price point. The 83kWh battery pack and aerodynamic design contribute to its impressive range. The Seal also features a heat pump for better range preservation in cold weather.

The Seal is available in two motor options: a single-motor variant with 308bhp and a dual-motor Excellence-AWD variant with 523bhp. Both models offer excellent performance, with the dual-motor variant achieving 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. The Seal handles well and provides a comfortable ride.

The interior of the BYD Seal is of high quality, with tactile materials and soft-touch surfaces. The infotainment system is impressive, with a 15.6-inch display that can rotate between landscape and portrait layouts. However, there are some drawbacks, such as the heating controls disappearing when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The Seal offers a spacious and quiet cabin, although rear foot space may be limited due to the low-mounted front seat bases. The boot space is good, thanks to the clever battery placement and long wheelbase.
