BYD, a rapidly growing car company, is making a name for itself in the world of electric vehicles (EVs) and is giving Tesla a run for its money. With a strong focus on new energy vehicles, BYD is vying for the title of the biggest EV maker in the world.

To support its growth and expansion into global export markets, BYD has proposed the idea of having its own car carrier ships. Construction of the first ship has now begun, and it will have the capacity to transport up to 7,000 vehicles on each voyage.

According to cnevpost, the first ship will be built by Guangzhou Shipyard International and will measure 200 meters in length. It will be capable of traveling at a speed of 18 knots or 34 km/h. The ships will be powered by LNG, but they will also be equipped with batteries and energy reduction devices.

Last year, a report indicated that BYD planned to order a total of 8 car-carrier ships, with an estimated cost of $686 million USD or approximately $1.07 billion AUD.

In Australia, BYD has successfully delivered 11,831 electric vehicles to local roads, with the majority being the popular BYD Atto 3 SUV. Deliveries of the lower-cost BYD Dolphin began in October, and the company expects to ship even more cars into the country in the coming months.

In addition to its existing lineup, BYD recently launched a performance-oriented sedan called the Seal, surprising many with its competitive price. Looking ahead to 2024, BYD has plans to introduce two more models to the local market, including a ute in the second half of the year.
