China-UK Ties Built on Economic and Trade Cooperation

Economic and trade cooperation serves as the cornerstone for the stable and progressive development of China-UK relations, according to Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. During a meeting with James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, in Beijing, Han emphasized the positive outcomes achieved in practical cooperation across various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the UK over half a century ago.

In light of the risks and challenges presented by the current international situation, Han stressed the importance for both countries, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global economies, to uphold the principles of mutual respect and win-win cooperation. He also highlighted the need to accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns, maintain open lines of communication on international and regional affairs, and work together to promote global peace and development.

Han further emphasized the importance of creating a favorable business environment and actively exploring new areas of practical cooperation. Recognizing China's status as a significant country with global influence and an increasingly prominent role in international governance, Cleverly, on behalf of the UK, expressed appreciation for China's substantial contributions to the world economy and poverty reduction.

Cleverly also expressed the UK's willingness to enhance high-level exchanges and strategic communication with China, with the aim of building consensus and deepening cooperation between the two nations.
