Clashes between Eritrean groups and police in Israel cause injuries to over 100

Hundreds of Eritrean government supporters and opponents engaged in violent clashes with each other and with Israeli police in Tel Aviv. This confrontation marked one of the most intense street battles among African asylum seekers and migrants in recent memory. The Magen David Adom rescue service reported that a total of 114 people were injured, with eight being in serious condition. The remaining individuals suffered from moderate or mild injuries.

Out of the injured, 30 were police officers, according to Chaim Bublil, a Tel Aviv police commander. Additionally, the police arrested 39 individuals and confiscated various weapons such as tasers, knives, and clubs.

The clashes initially erupted outside a venue in south Tel Aviv, which was scheduled to host an event organized by the Eritrean embassy in Israel. Anti-government protesters arrived at the location to prevent the event from taking place. Subsequently, Israeli police declared the gathering to be an illegal demonstration and ordered the participants to disperse.

In response, the police, equipped with riot gear, utilized tear gas, stun grenades, and live rounds. Mounted officers on horseback attempted to control the protesters, who managed to break through barricades and launched rocks at the police.

The police stated, "Officers who feared for their lives used live fire against rioters." According to their statement, three protesters were struck by Israeli police gunfire.
