Electric Orca Delivery Begins

Last July, Taiga Motors introduced its first electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca. The initial model, called the "Carbon," was priced at $26,500 and featured a carbon fiber shell, which not only reduced weight but also improved the design.

Although the Orca Carbon was an intriguing product, its price tag was considerably higher than traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs, which typically cost around $15,000. This meant that choosing the Orca over an ICE-powered PWC came at a significant premium.

However, the Orca was the first electric personal watercraft to hit the market, much like the original Tesla Roadster priced at $98,000. Some buyers were willing to pay the premium to own the first of its kind. Nevertheless, the Orca has now become more affordable.

As planned, Taiga now offers the Orca Performance model for $19,490. It shares the same propulsion system as the Carbon, with a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor. This allows for approximately 2 hours of riding on a single charge, covering a distance of around 27 miles.

Once the battery is depleted, the Orca comes with a 6.6kW onboard charger, enabling a charge time of three and a half hours. For an additional $650, customers can opt for an onboard CCS charging port, reducing the zero to eighty percent charge time to just forty minutes.

In addition to the Performance model, Taiga plans to release a Sport variant with a more limited output of 90 horsepower, starting at $17,490.

Despite the introduction of the Performance and Sport models, Taiga continues to produce the Carbon model. Customers who choose this model can opt for the fast charge package and select different seat and body colors at no additional cost.
