Tesla's New Wall Connector Features Innovative Adapter

Tesla has recently introduced its Universal Wall Connector, a charging device that is compatible with any electric vehicle. This new charger includes both a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug and an Integrated J1772 adapter, making it convenient for EV owners. One notable feature of the Universal Wall Connector is its ability to view charging history and energy consumption through the Tesla app, which is beneficial for non-Tesla owners as well.

The announcement of the Universal Wall Connector was made by Tesla through social media. Videos and the Tesla Shop page showcase the key feature of this charger, which is the integrated J1772 adapter designed specifically for non-Tesla vehicles. This adapter is similar to the Magic Dock used in Tesla's Supercharger stations to charge non-Tesla electric cars. The Tesla Shop page also reveals other interesting functions of the Universal Wall Connector.

In addition to the integrated J1772 adapter and NACS plug, the Universal Wall Connector has a charging capacity of adding 44 miles of range per hour at 11.5 kW/48 amp output. It also has Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling over-the-air software updates. The most significant feature, however, is the access to the Tesla App, which allows users to monitor and manage their charging schedule and usage. This is a unique feature not commonly found in non-Tesla chargers, making it valuable for daily use by EV owners.

Although priced at $595, the Universal Wall Connector offers more features and convenience compared to Tesla's current Wall Connector priced at $475. Interested buyers can place orders for the product, but shipments are scheduled to begin in October.
