Electric Power and a Price Tag: David Brown Automotive's Expensive Mini eMastered

UK company David Brown Automotive has introduced a new version of the classic Mini, called the Mini eMastered, which features an electric powertrain. However, this electric Mini comes with a hefty price tag, costing over £125,000. Despite the high price, there is already a celebrity owner of one of these electric Minis, although it is not a brand new model. Simon Cowell, the music mogul and television star, has received the first Mini eMastered, which is actually a petrol Mini Remastered that has been converted to electric power by the David Brown workshop. Cowell's Mini is a replica of the Lotus Esprit Turbo from the 1981 James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only, and features a unique color scheme and hand-painted stripes.

David Brown Automotive is known for its bespoke coachbuilding business, specializing in recreating classic cars for wealthy customers. The company has been offering modernized versions of the Mini, called Mini Remastered, with updated powertrains and components, selling for prices exceeding £100,000. However, the Mini eMastered is the most expensive Mini yet, starting at £25,000 more than the most expensive petrol version. Compared to the original Mini, which was sold for just £496 64 years ago, the electrified version is 252 times more expensive, even when adjusted for inflation. The Mini eMastered offers an official range of 110 miles, powered by an 18.8kW battery and a 72kW electric motor.

The Mini eMastered retains the iconic Mini silhouette but features flared wheel arches and classic Minilite-style alloy wheels. The interior has been updated with modern retro styling, including leather seats, a wooden steering wheel, and a high-definition central infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The company prides itself on offering a clean, quiet, and convenient driving experience with the Mini eMastered. The electric conversion has been a challenge, as the company aims to maintain the reliability, performance, and quality expected by customers.

Simon Cowell, the first owner of a Mini eMastered, is thrilled with his electric Mini and praises the immediate torque and acceleration provided by the electric motor. He considers it his favorite car and appreciates the passion and craftsmanship that went into its creation. Cowell's Mini is a testament to the dedication of David Brown Automotive to British craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability.
