A recent study conducted by US research firm JD Power, called the Tech Experience Index, has revealed some interesting findings regarding owner experiences with advanced vehicle technology. The study aims to measure the problems that arise when new technology is introduced to the market.

According to the report, out of the 21 advanced features assessed, 17 of them had more problems per 100 vehicles on electric vehicles compared to petrol models. These advanced features are available on both petrol and electric cars.

These results align with the findings of the JD Power 2023 Initial Quality Study, which also showed that electric vehicles (excluding Tesla) had 46% more total vehicle problems compared to petrol vehicles. Additionally, satisfaction levels were lower among electric vehicle owners.

Kathleen Rizk, the senior director of user experience benchmarking and technology at JD Power, emphasized the importance of innovation in the electric vehicle space. She stated that a strong advanced tech strategy is crucial for all vehicle manufacturers, particularly those aiming to establish themselves in the electric vehicle market. Rizk also highlighted the perception in the industry that electric vehicles should offer advanced technologies to compete with companies like Tesla.

Rizk further mentioned that the success of manufacturers in this space will depend on flawless execution and ensuring a consistent user experience for both tech-savvy individuals and those less familiar with technology.
