MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently hosted MSP Graham Simpson at its headquarters to showcase the first vehicles entering production. The company organized an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans were given tours of the workshops where the initial customer vehicles are being manufactured. The highlight of the visit was a Q&A session with the company's founders, during which visitors asked various questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive.
The first two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles being hand-built at the East Kilbride site are Founder Editions. The black truck is being constructed to Munro's Range specification, featuring 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a 2.5-tonne braked towing weight. On the other hand, the gloss-white pick-up, built in ultimate specification Performance guise, boasts a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and a similar estimated range of 190 miles.
Described as a 'ground-breaking' solution, the Munro MK_1 combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. The vehicle's 'spacious' rear bed can accommodate a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload, while the Performance model offers a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for hauling various items such as farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies.
Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models, positioning the company to take advantage of the significant global market opportunity. With the support of financial partners, Munro is nearing completion of its first two production models.
Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles and praised Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades. Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson expressed pride in showcasing the engineering and passion behind their all-terrain electric vehicles to MSP Graham Simpson, highlighting Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
