EV inquiry launched by MPs

An inquiry has been launched by the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee to help the UK Government understand how the country will achieve net zero emissions. The focus of the inquiry will be on the decarbonization of cars and vans, with a particular emphasis on passenger cars.

Baroness Kate Parminter, the chair of the committee, emphasized the importance of individual actions in reaching the net zero target. She stated that using electric vehicles for passenger transport is a crucial part of this effort. The Government has already committed to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030.

The committee will examine the Government's approach to achieving the phase-out dates of 2030 and 2035, as well as the infrastructure and charging issues at both national and regional levels.

Baroness Parminter also highlighted the need to hear from the public about their experiences with electric vehicles in the UK, as well as the barriers they face in adopting them. The committee is also interested in gathering input from industry, local authorities, and other stakeholders on what the Government can do to encourage greater uptake of electric vehicles ahead of the 2030 and 2035 targets.
