EV inquiry launched by MPs

An inquiry has been launched by the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee to help the UK Government understand how the country can achieve net zero emissions. The focus of the inquiry will be on electric vehicles (EVs) and the barriers to decarbonizing cars and vans in the UK.

The committee, chaired by Baroness Kate Parminter, recognizes that individual changes in how people travel and what they buy are crucial to reaching net zero. EVs will play a significant role in this transition, as the Government has committed to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030.

The inquiry will examine the Government's approach to meeting the phase-out dates of 2030 and 2035, as well as the infrastructure and charging issues on a national and regional level. Baroness Parminter emphasized the importance of gathering input from the public, industry, local authorities, and other stakeholders to understand their experiences and identify the barriers to adopting EVs.

The committee aims to uncover what actions the Government needs to take to encourage greater uptake of EVs before the 2030 and 2035 targets are reached. The public's input and insights from various sectors will be crucial in shaping policies and initiatives to drive the transition to sustainable transportation.
