Extra space and longer-range PHEV for the latest Škoda Superb

Škoda has introduced the all-new Superb hatchback and estate, showcasing advancements in space, design, technology, and powertrains for its flagship ICE model. This marks the fourth generation of the Superb, which was initially launched in 2001. The new model builds on the strengths of its predecessor, incorporating the brand's Modern Solid design language with a sculptured look, a more aerodynamic windscreen, and LED Matrix beam headlights.

The Superb is built on an updated version of the VW Group's MQB Evo platform, which is also used for the new Tiguan and VW Passat. This platform offers increased length and height, resulting in additional boot capacity. The hatchback gains 20 liters of boot space, bringing the total to 645 liters, while the estate model sees a 30-liter increase, reaching 690 liters. With the rear seats folded down, the estate offers a total boot capacity of 1,920 liters.

The interior of the Superb features a new and more intuitive concept. Top models are equipped with a 13-inch infotainment screen, while lower grades have a 10-inch screen. The Škoda Smart Dials combine haptic and digital features, providing quick and intuitive access to various vehicle and infotainment functions. The gear selector lever has been relocated to the steering column, creating more space in the center console. The Superb also offers a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit as standard, with an optional head-up display and a permanent internet connection for online features.

In terms of design, the Superb incorporates eco-friendly materials, including textiles made from sustainable materials. The new range structure introduces Design Selections, allowing customers to choose themed option packs or individual options. Additional features include a Phone Box with fast wireless charging and smartphone cooling, as well as Ergo seats with 10 massage cushions for improved comfort.

The Superb comes with 28 of Škoda's 'Simply Clever features, including an electrically operated load cover for the Estate. All variants come with alloy wheels as standard, ranging from 17-inch rims to optional 19-inch wheels.

The engine lineup of the Superb includes three petrol engines and two diesel engines. The petrol options consist of a 150hp 1.5-liter 48V mild hybrid, a 2.0-liter with either 205 or 265hp, and a plug-in hybrid delivering 204hp with an all-electric range of over 62 miles. The diesel options offer 150hp and 193hp. All-wheel drive is standard for the top versions.

The Superb PHEV can be charged at up to 11kW at domestic wallboxes and AC charging points, providing a zero to 100% charge in 2.5 hours. Charging at public DC fast charging stations takes just 25 minutes to replenish the battery from 10 to 80%. The Superb also supports Plug & Charge functionality.

The Superb is equipped with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard, and the optional DCC Plus generation of Dynamic Chassis Control offers faster responses and a wider range of suspension settings. New assistance systems have been introduced, including turn assist, crossroad assist, emergency steering assist, and exit warning. Previous systems such as travel assist, side assist, and front assist have also been improved. Safety features include Crew Protect Assist and up to ten airbags.

The Superb now features an intelligent park assist system that can automatically park the vehicle in end-on and parallel parking spaces. The system controls both the steering and speed, automatically stopping if an obstacle is detected. The improved rear-view camera enhances pedestrian and child detection for the automated emergency braking system.

Pricing for the Superb is expected to be announced later this year, with deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-2024.
