FANUC secures Volvo Cars partnership

Automation supplier FANUC has secured a contract with Volvo Cars to provide industrial robots to the automotive manufacturer's plants worldwide. This includes Volvo's upcoming battery production facilities in Europe, Asia, and America.
The initial phase of the agreement will involve FANUC supplying over 700 robots to a planned manufacturing site in Kosice, Slovakia. Volvo Cars anticipates that the first vehicles will be produced at this location in 2026. Additionally, FANUC will also provide robots to sites in Ghent, Belgium, and Daqing, China.
"Volvo Cars was seeking a long-term partner in factory automation, and we are proud to be shaping the future of the automotive industry together," stated Marco Ghirardello, president and CEO of FANUC Europe.
Volvo Cars aims to exclusively manufacture electric vehicles by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The company's new carbon-neutral facility in Slovakia will be its first site dedicated to producing electric vehicles. FANUC is pleased to contribute to Volvo's sustainability goals.
"Our robots are energy-efficient, highly durable, and require minimal maintenance, making us an appealing partner for companies committed to sustainable operations," explained Ralf Völlinger, general manager of FANUC Europe's robot business division.
