Fanuc secures worldwide robot agreement with Volvo Cars

Leading automation supplier Fanuc has recently entered into a contract with Volvo Cars to provide industrial robots for the automotive manufacturer's plants worldwide. This includes Volvo Cars' new battery production facilities in Europe, Asia, and America. The initial phase of the agreement will involve supplying over 700 robots to a planned manufacturing site in Kosice, Slovakia. Volvo Cars anticipates that the first vehicles will be produced at this site by 2026. Additionally, Fanuc will also supply robots to sites in Ghent, Belgium, and China as part of the same phase.

Fanuc Europe's president and CEO, Marco Ghirardello, expressed pride in being chosen as Volvo Cars' long-term partner in factory automation. He emphasized the significance of shaping the future of the automotive industry together. Volvo Cars aims to exclusively manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) from 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The new manufacturing facility in Slovakia will be the company's first site dedicated to producing EVs. Fanuc is delighted to contribute to Volvo Cars' sustainability efforts.

Ralf Völlinger, the general manager of Fanuc Europe's robot business division, highlighted the advantages of using their robots. These robots are energy-efficient, highly durable, and require minimal maintenance. These qualities make Fanuc an attractive partner for companies striving to operate sustainably.
