Footballer's Escape: Range Rover Crash and Police Chase

A footballer who had been released by Blackpool FC was involved in a high-speed police chase after crashing his Range Rover into a parked car. The incident occurred in April when Gary Madine refused to stop for police lights and sirens. He sped down narrow roads and eventually collided with a parked white Ford Focus, causing it to spin and hit a postbox.

In footage released by the police, Madine can be seen fleeing from the scene after the crash. He ran away in one direction while his passenger walked away in the opposite direction. The video shows him speeding past parked vehicles in a residential area before crashing into the Ford Focus.

It was revealed in court that Madine had been released by Blackpool a month earlier due to a knee injury. The court heard that he was feeling low at the time of the offense. However, Madine hopes to restart his football career after rehabilitation and has received offers from other clubs.

The court heard that the police chase began when officers were called to a disturbance involving a group of males in Birtley, Gateshead. Madine, who was driving a Range Rover with a passenger, ignored instructions to pull over. During the pursuit, he drove dangerously at excessive speeds on residential streets.

When the chase reached Selkirk Crescent, Madine's vehicle collided with the parked Ford Focus. The impact caused the Focus to spin and collide with a postbox. Madine and his passenger then fled from the scene. Madine later failed to provide details of the driver as required by the Road Traffic Act.

In court, Madine admitted to dangerous driving, failing to stop for a police constable, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to provide driver information. His defense lawyer explained that Madine had a difficult year in 2023, including a serious injury and a strained relationship. However, he expressed remorse for his actions and is eager to return to his profession.

Madine was sentenced to six months suspended for 18 months, with 250 hours of unpaid work and a 12-month driving ban. He will also have to sit an extended test before regaining his license.
