Ford Hires Former Apple Executive for Software Subscription Services

Ford has made a significant move by hiring Peter Stern, a former Apple executive, to lead a new business unit focused on selling software-related subscription services to vehicle owners. The automaker, based in Dearborn, Michigan, announced on Monday that Stern would be in charge of Ford Integrated Services, a unit that aims to integrate software and hardware into various services.

Prior to joining Ford, Stern held the position of vice president of services at Apple, where he had oversight over various businesses including Apple TV plus, iCloud storage, Apple Books, and the arcade and fitness operations. His experience in managing these areas will undoubtedly be valuable as Ford looks to expand its service offerings.

Stern officially started his role at Ford on Monday and will be reporting directly to CEO Jim Farley. In addition to overseeing software-related subscription services, Stern will also be responsible for enhancing Ford's BlueCruise hands-free partially automated driving system. Furthermore, he will contribute to the development of productivity, safety, and security services.

This hiring decision reflects Ford's commitment to innovation and its recognition of the growing importance of software and subscription services in the automotive industry. By bringing in a former Apple executive with a strong background in services, Ford is positioning itself to stay competitive in an increasingly digital and connected world.
