【Summary】Genesis has earned three IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards for their GV60, GV70, and GV80 SUVs. While there is room for improvement in certain areas, all three vehicles excelled in crashworthiness evaluations and come equipped with safety features such as airbags and collision-avoidance systems. Genesis Earns Trio of IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Awards for New GV Lineup

If a vehicle is awarded the Top Safety Pick+ accolade by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it is considered to be as safe as technically possible. Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai, recently received three such awards for their sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

However, there is some room for error when it comes to the Top Safety Pick+ accolade. The GV60, Genesis' first-ever electric vehicle based on the Hyundai E-GMP electric vehicle architecture, scored acceptable for the ease of use of the child seat anchors. The GV70, which is available in both internal combustion and electric propulsion options, was rated advanced instead of superior for daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention. The larger GV80, known for its rear-biased all-wheel drive (AWD), earned an acceptable rating for the headlights and child seat anchors.

Despite these areas for improvement, it's important to note that all three vehicles performed exceptionally well in crashworthiness evaluations. These evaluations include various crash tests such as the driver- and passenger-side small overlap front crash test, moderate overlap front crash test, and side crash test. Genesis represents the best of what Hyundai has to offer, so it's no surprise that the GV crossovers mentioned above received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. All three vehicles come equipped with at least eight standard airbags, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, which can also detect cyclists and pedestrians.

The GV60, which is twinned with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, is currently available in limited numbers at select retailers in 23 states. The 2024 model starts at $60,550 (excluding destination charge) for the Advanced version and $69,550 for the Performance AWD. While the Performance AWD offers impressive power with 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, its range is lacking, with only 235 miles on the combined test cycle. The Advanced AWD also falls short in terms of range, offering only 248 miles.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) is where Hyundai produces the US-spec GV70 and Electrified GV70 for the 2024 model year. The GV70 shares the Hyundai-Kia M3 platform with the GV80, which gained attention when professional golfer Tiger Woods crashed one in February 2021. Despite the multiple rolls, Tiger survived the crash with a fractured leg and shattered ankle, thanks in part to the safety features of the GV80.
