General Motors' joint venture in China, SGMW, has recently launched the Baojun Cloud electric hatchback. Priced at 95,800 yuan ($13.2K), the Baojun Cloud is set to make its mark in the Chinese market.
SGMW, which is a collaboration between General Motors, SAIC, and Wuling Motors, sells vehicles under the Wuling and Baojun brand names. In 2020, they introduced the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, an affordable microcar that quickly became popular and even outsold Tesla's Model 3 in the region.
Building on the success of the Mini EV, SGMW has expanded its electric vehicle lineup. They have introduced variations such as the Mini EV convertible and the Wuling Air EV, which is known as the MG Comet in India. These releases have helped establish SGMW as a key player in the Chinese EV market.
The Baojun Yep, another all-electric vehicle from SGMW, has also gained attention. With its resemblance to the mini Ford Bronco, it has generated excitement among car enthusiasts in China.
Adding to their lineup, SGMW recently launched the Wuling Bingo, a sub-$10,000 EV that has already achieved impressive sales numbers. In its first month on the market, it recorded 16,383 deliveries.
Now, SGMW has officially listed the Baojun Yunduo, also known as the Baojun Cloud, in China. This electric hatchback is available in four versions and offers a range of features. With a length of 4,295 mm, width of 1,850 mm, and height of 1,652 mm, it is expected to compete with other popular EVs like the BYD Dolphin and Volkswagen ID.3.
The Baojun Cloud is offered with two battery options, providing a cruising range of either 360 km or 460 km. Inside the vehicle, drivers will find an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument screen and either a 10.1-inch or 15.6-inch central control screen. It also features LingOS 2.0 ecological cockpit, making it a technologically advanced choice in the EV market.
In response to the competitive EV market in China, Volkswagen recently reduced prices for its ID.3 electric car. This move has resulted in a significant increase in sales, with SAIC-VW reporting a 300% surge in ID.3 sales last month.
