Honda's debut of an electric bicycle
【Summary】Honda has introduced its first electric bicycle, the Honda e-MTB Concept, at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. Unlike other far-fetched e-bike concepts, Honda's design appears to be production-ready. The bike utilizes existing e-bike components, allowing Honda to focus on its appearance and structural design. The e-bike combines motorcycle and bicycle experiences and is designed to handle mountainous terrain.
Honda has joined other major automotive manufacturers in debuting its first electric bicycle, the Honda e-MTB Concept, at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. The bike has a realistic design and looks like something that could actually be produced. This is a promising trend in e-bike concepts, indicating that these designs may one day reach production.
The e-bike utilizes an existing Brose mid-drive motor, allowing Honda to focus on the bike's appearance and structural design rather than reinventing the wheel. The bike features a SRAM Eagle AXS drivetrain, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, Fox suspension, a RockShox Reverb dropper seat post, DT Swiss XM 1700 wheels, and Maxxis Minion DHF tires.
Honda's goal with the e-MTB Concept is to combine motorcycle and bicycle experiences in a single product that can handle mountainous terrain. The company aims to offer a new riding experience that combines the fun of motorcycles and the fun of a mountain bike, allowing anyone to enjoy riding mountainous trails more freely.
Honda is not the first automaker or motorcycle manufacturer to explore electric bicycles as a means of brand expansion. Companies like Harley-Davidson, Porsche, Peugeot, GM, HUMMER, and Jeep have also ventured into the e-bike market. As the e-bike market continues to grow, more automakers are recognizing its potential as a lucrative way to expand their market and attract more people into their transportation ecosystem.
