Hurricane Idalia strikes Florida as a powerful Category 3 storm

Big Bend, a coastal region in Florida, stands out from other coastal regions in the state due to the absence of barrier islands.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Hurricane Idalia, a highly dangerous Category 3 hurricane, has made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida. The eye of the hurricane hit near Keaton Beach, a local community.

In response to the approaching hurricane, Governor Ron DeSantis has issued an evacuation order for residents in 23 counties along the Gulf coast of Florida. He urged them to seek shelter in designated evacuation centers or hotels located outside the danger zones.
