Jaguar's new era: A four-door GT goes electric

Jaguar is preparing to enter its all-electric era with the introduction of a £100,000 four-door GT. Our exclusive image offers a glimpse into what can be expected from this exciting new model. The rear image reveals a departure from Jaguar's current lineup, featuring a wide stance, distinct squared-off angles, straight lines, and a prominent diffuser. The sleek design is further accentuated by razor-thin tail-lights and the absence of Jaguar badging.

Newly appointed JLR boss Adrian Mardell expressed a clear desire to take Jaguar in a new direction with a fresh visual identity that captures the brand's emotion. Jaguar's team of designers presented various design options, and the image we see here is the first interpretation of the unanimously chosen new design language. Mardell describes it as "jaw-dropping." This rapid design process, known as Project Renaissance, involved three teams from JLR's design studio in Gaydon, resulting in 18 clay-model proposals within a short span of three months.

Several prototypes of the new GT are expected to undergo road testing by the end of the year, with an official unveiling planned for around April or May 2024. Sales are scheduled to begin in 2025. Additionally, this model provides a glimpse into what can be expected from the two new crossovers that will complete the Jaguar lineup. Mardell emphasizes the importance of a cohesive family look across the brand's offerings.

Jaguar is undergoing a complete reboot as part of JLR's Reimagine strategy, with no plans to replace any existing models. Instead, the brand will be positioned alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery as one of JLR's four "brand pillars." The GT, along with the other two vehicles in the lineup, will be manufactured at the Solihull plant, which will also produce the all-electric Range Rover. The GT is set to become the most powerful Jaguar production car ever made, surpassing the brand's current EV, the I-Pace, in terms of range and charging capacity.

While specific motor outputs and performance figures have not been released, Jaguar claims that the new GT will have a range of up to 700km (435 miles) and will be capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of rapid charging.
