JLR to launch compact electric vehicle 'Defender Sport' in brand expansion.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been making significant changes to its lineup, including separating its core models into individual brands and announcing the release of several new electric vehicles (EVs) in the near future. One of the most anticipated additions to the lineup is a smaller model of the Defender, and it seems that this long-standing rumor is becoming more likely to come true.

In addition to the electric version of the Defender that JLR has recently announced, there are expectations that a smaller version of the SUV will also be introduced as a fully electric model. This smaller model will utilize the same platform known as the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA).

During an exclusive interview with JLR CEO Adrian Mardell, he mentioned that they are considering the creation of other vehicles within the Defender family. He expressed confidence that by the next Global Media Day, they will have a clear vision of what they are comfortable producing using the EMA platform.

There are rumors circulating that the smaller Defender model might be named the Defender Sport, following a similar naming convention to the Range Rover Sport. Exclusive renders of the potential Defender Sport provide a glimpse of what this new model could look like.

It is expected that the smaller Defender will borrow styling cues from the core Defender model, allowing each brand within the JLR family to have its own distinctive appearance. This will likely include shorter overhangs and a boxy utilitarian design, which are characteristic features of the Defender lineage.
