Kia EV5 electric SUV's early debut

Kia's upcoming electric SUV, the Kia EV5, has made an early appearance in China, ahead of its official debut scheduled for 25 August. This new model follows the impressive Kia EV6, which offers style, decent range, and good performance, although it comes with a higher price tag, especially for the GT version.

The Kia EV5 was first previewed a couple of months ago with a concept, and it is now set to make its official debut later this month. However, it seems that the vehicle has been revealed a bit earlier than planned. A photo of the EV5, sourced from information delivered to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for homologation purposes, shows that the production version closely resembles the concept.

The EV5 shares many design elements with the concept, such as actual door handles, the same wheel design (albeit smaller), actual door mirrors, and slightly different lights. Overall, the design remains largely unchanged. In terms of size, the EV5 is similar to the Sportage and is built on Kia's E-GMP Platform. It is equipped with a single electric motor at the front, delivering 215bhp and 229lb/ft of torque. The battery pack, expected to be 82kWh, is BYD's 'Blade' Lithium iron phosphate (LFE) battery pack. An AWD model with an additional motor on the back is expected to be released later.

The Kia EV5 is scheduled to make its official debut in China on 25 August.
