Kia's upcoming electric SUV, the Kia EV5, has made an early appearance in China, ahead of its official debut scheduled for 25 August. This new electric vehicle follows the success of Kia's EV6, which has impressed with its style, decent range, and good performance. However, the EV6 does come with a higher price tag, especially if you opt for the GT version.
The Kia EV5 was first previewed a couple of months ago with a concept, and it is now set to make its official debut later this month. However, the vehicle has been revealed a bit earlier than expected. The photo of the EV5, sourced from information delivered to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for homologation purposes, shows that the production model closely resembles the concept.
Although the EV5 shares many design elements with the concept, there are a few notable differences. The production model features actual door handles, which is a practical addition. The wheel design remains the same but is slightly smaller. Additionally, the EV5 sports actual door mirrors and slightly different lights, but the overall design remains unchanged.
In terms of size, the EV5 is very similar to the Sportage and is built on Kia's E-GMP Platform. It is equipped with a single electric motor at the front, delivering 215bhp and 229lb/ft of torque. The battery pack is expected to be 82kWh, utilizing BYD's 'Blade' Lithium iron phosphate (LFE) technology. It is worth noting that an AWD model with an additional motor at the back is expected to be released in the future.
The Kia EV5 is set to make its official debut on 25 August in China, showcasing its impressive design and promising performance.
