Kia unveils production version of EV5 electric SUV
【Summary】The new Kia EV5, a compact electric SUV, has been revealed at the Chengdu motor show. It shares the same platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6. The EV5 offers chunky styling and promises more practicality than the sleek EV6. While deliveries in China are confirmed, it is unclear if the EV5 will be available in the UK. The design of the production EV5 closely resembles the earlier concept car, featuring LED daytime running lights and a distinctive grille design.
The Korean car brands, Kia and Hyundai, have been incredibly active in recent years, consistently releasing new models. One of their latest offerings is the Kia EV5, which was recently unveiled at the Chengdu motor show in China.
The EV5 is a compact electric SUV with a robust design that takes inspiration from the larger seven-seat Kia EV9. It aims to offer more practicality compared to the sleek EV6.
While Kia has confirmed that deliveries of the EV5 will begin in China by the end of the year, there is no official word on whether it will be available in the UK. However, given the popularity of the mid-sized petrol-powered Sportage model in the UK, it would be surprising if the EV5 wasn't offered here.
Although full specifications for the EV5 have not been released yet, it is expected to have dimensions similar to the Sportage. This suggests that it will be comparable in size and potentially appeal to the same customer base.
Regarding the design and interior of the EV5, it closely resembles the EV5 concept car that was showcased earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show. It features Kia's 'Opposites United' design language, which can also be seen in the EV9 and the latest Kia Picanto facelift. Notably, the EV5 incorporates a distinctive 'Tiger Face' grille design, albeit without an actual grille.
