Lamborghini unveils its first four-seat electric vehicle
【Summary】Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV), the four-seat Lamborghini Lanzador GT concept. The concept car was showcased at Monterey Car Week in California and is scheduled for launch in five years. The Lanzador aims to bridge the gap between Lamborghini's SUV, the Urus, and its mid-engined supercars. The concept car represents the company's vision for its next new model line, focusing on sportiness and fun-to-drive characteristics.
The long-awaited electric Lamborghini has finally arrived. After the success of the Urus SUV, Lamborghini is venturing into a new segment with the introduction of the Lanzador, a stunning four-seat GT.
Unveiled as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California, the Lanzador is set to launch in five years. It is a sleek two-row supercar with a footprint similar to that of the Porsche Taycan, but with a higher ground clearance to enhance its versatility.
The Lanzador is designed to bridge the gap between the Urus and Lamborghini's traditional mid-engined supercars. It represents the company's vision for its next new model line, staying true to Lamborghini's DNA by offering best-in-class sportiveness and a fun-to-drive character.
More than just a show car, the Lanzador is described as a "laboratory on wheels" that showcases the production intent of its technology and manufacturing methods.
The confirmation of an electric Lamborghini came in 2021 when CEO Stephan Winkelmann revealed discussions about the car's bodystyle and positioning. However, speculation about Lamborghini's first EV has been circulating since 2017, when the Terzo Millennio hypercar hinted at the company's zero-emission future.
The Lanzador provides insight into Lamborghini's electric future, giving a glimpse of what it will look and sound like. When asked why the new model is being shown five years before its release, Winkelmann explained that it is a strategic move to prepare the market and allow for feedback and development.
Over the next five years, Lamborghini will use this buffer zone to gather opinions and explore new approaches to give its EVs a distinctive character.
